In Memory of Ardeth Hale, CURN, FAUNA (Ret)

xI remember Ardeth from the early days of my SUNA membership—and I soon realized what a fixture she was. But it was not until I helped her prepare her journal article for SUNA's 50th anniversary that I fully realized the scope of her career and how much all of us with an interest in the care of urology patients owe her.

It was a huge honor to have been named the Ardeth Hale Leadership Award recipient this year, and knowing that she personally had a hand in selecting the actual physical award makes it that much more special. I am personally grateful we were able to create the SUNA Fellows program, naming Ardeth as its inaugural emeritus Fellow, a title she immediately took to and fully understood in its relevance. She will forever be remembered as the “grande dame” of urology nursing.
